Rotarians from around the territory held a launch party last Thursday at The Moorings to begin formally preparing to host the 2019 annual District 7020 conference.

“At least 500 Rotarians and their spouses in 2019 will descend on the British Virgin Islands, and the British Virgin Islands has got to be ready,” said Lorna Smith, past president of the Rotary Club of Tortola. “We have to have accommodations, the BVI has to be spruced up, it has to be pretty, it has to be the kind of place that they will want to come back to, and it has to be the kind of place that we will all be proud of. It takes lots of planning, and that’s why we launch a couple of years ahead.”

Speakers at the event — including Governor John Duncan and Premier Dr. Orlando Smith — also honoured Delma Maduro, who in May was selected to be the 2018-2019 Rotary District 7020 governor.

Ms. Maduro will become the territory’s second district governor, after Vance Lewis in 2012-2013.
